On July 25, 2005 my wife bought me a 2004 Ford Mustang 40^th Anniversary Addition for my birthday. It had 13,000 or so miles on it. I had planned to race the car at Brainerd International Raceway at the end of August at Muscle Car Shootout. At that time, I had been out of the game for quite a while and into something that didn’t say Dodge, Chrysler, or Plymouth on it. I wanted something that was cheap and easy to make fast and knew Mustangs would be the option.

Although it has not been finalized, there are plans for a $200 million motorsports track in Big Lake Township, Minnesota.  The developer, International Motorsports Entertainment and Development Corp. of Coon Rapids state they want to attract “the biggest names in racing.”

According to Star Tribune and the St. Cloud Times, here are the facts of the motorsports track complex:

• 400 acres will be used in the Big Lake area
• The complex will be built for 90,000 fans, expanding to 150,000+
• Hopeful racing to start by 2011
• Mile-high banked paved oval, a 1-mile flat paved oval, quarter-mile drag strip, a 3/8-mile oval dirt track
• 100,000 square foot exhibition and convention center

A lady petitioning against the raceway came to our home the other day.  The lady was very one sided and not willing to listen when we refused to sign the petition.  We argued that the future racing complex would provide jobs to the city and with the Northstar Rail, will bring a lot of money into Big Lake.

Auto parts sales is a 60 million dollar business in Minnesota alone!
